Pragmata's PS5 Pro release was something of a strange one, as it offered the best way to play the game on console, yet it actually used a lower internal resolution than the base PS5 code in its 60fps mode. With patch 1.21, that's now been rectified, with the game moving from an 864p internal resolution to 1080p, the same as the vanilla PS5.
Previously, the lower internal resolution was mostly made up for by the use of Pro-exclusive PSSR upscaling versus FSR on the base console, but RT reflections on PS5 Pro actually looked lower resolution than the base console - because they were. Now, that issue has been rectified, and there's a nice bump to image quality too.
The change was first surfaced in a video by Brazil Pixel which tested version 1.21 and found the higher-than-expected internal resolution using the creator's own bespoke tools. Our earlier testing was on the 1.20 release, which gives us a nice chance to see exactly how the game has changed.
We've since popped back in to Pragmata on PS5 Pro to confirm the finding and capture some screenshots (above), and there's a clear difference in image quality between the two versions - especially on geometry and effects with long straight lines or edges, as you can see with the holographic lines or metal components we've highlighted here.
Thus far, performance here doesn't seem noticeably worse, but there is the potential for the most challenging areas to run at slightly lower frame-rates. We generally saw these in cutscenes where Diana's computationally expensive hair took up more of the screen than usual, though some battles also resulted in performance dips. The PS5 Pro was generally the most likely console to lock to 60fps, so hopefully any drops will remain well within the 48-60Hz VRR window.
For more resolution hijinks, why not read about how to engage a 1440p quality mode on base PS5? It's pretty amusing that it works, even if performance isn't great.

Good to have this confirmed because there was discussion in another comments section about whether the game was actually 864p or 1080p. It seemed to me like it was definitely the former because the RT reflections looked worst than on PS5 which does render at 1080p. RT resolutions are tied to rendering resolutions so that made sense.
Great to hear that the PS5 Pro version now has visual parity with the PS5 version, thanks to this small (136p) resolution bump. It always annoys me when I play a game on PS5 Pro and find out that it has worse visuals and/or performance than on the base system.
In this case, it may be trivial and likely something most people would not notice but the point remains that the PS5 Pro is supposed to offer the premium gaming experience so having anything, visuals or performance, worse than the base system is not a good look in my opinion.
I like to think that the PlayStation 5 is slowly rising through the old Pro Evolution Soccer difficulty levels.
I'm imagining some Capcom developer opening up the first Digital Foundry article and going "wait, that's not the resolution we meant, woops" and sneaking it into the next update.
Now all Capcom need to do is allow NVIDIA's ray reconstruction DLL be used in the standard RT mode and not be restricted to the path-tracing mode only. PC version, obviously!
Does this change only apply to the capped 60FPS mode? Or have they also improved the uncapped (HFR) mode as well? I would imagine it could cause a performance loss if applied to the uncapped mode but just curious.
@Darren1967 in fairness the overall image was still much better than base PS5 even with the lower base res, it was just the reflections. Nice that's been updated though
@Darren1967 which game(s) have worse visual and/or performance than base PS5? I'm pretty sure all PSSR games look and/or perform better on PS5 Pro or baseline as good.
@Vince_Virtua - Alan Wake 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f all exhibited issues with PSSR (shimmering and other artifacts) that were not present on the base PS5. Those issues might be lessened or improved now with the force PSSR2 toggle but all those games were visually inferior to PS5 for many months prior to that.
Also, Digital Foundry have documented a few PS5 games over the years that have slightly worse performance on PS5 Pro but I cannot remember exactly which ones. I think Metal Gear Solid Delta was one though (just checked and, yes, Tom Morgan confirms the Pro version ran worse at launch and still has framerate drops several patches later in a follow up video).
This is great, just started playing Pragmata on PS5 Pro after finishing RE9. Lovely engine Capcom, and two fantastic games.
@Darren1967 precisely, you said it, "Those issues might be lessened or improved now with the force PSSR2 toggle". One qualifier is there is no "might".
None of the games you mentioned, Alan Wake 2, Jedi Survivor, the Silent Hills etc have these shimmering/artifacts anymore and are all superior to their base PS5 counterpart.
